22 New Senior Transportation Vehicles Provided

Cuyahoga County, June 4, 2007:  Senior Transportation Connection, a non-profit coordinator of senior transportation in Cuyahoga County, announces the distribution of 22 new 10-passenger, wheel chair lift equipped vehicles paid for in part from a grant from the Federal Transit Administration.  The STC expects to begin delivering the vehicles on June 25th. 

Those receiving the vehicles include a variety of both municipal and non-profit providers, including:  Catholic Charities, City of Beachwood, City of Bedford Heights, City of Berea, Eliza Bryant Village, City of Garfield Heights, Goodrich Gannet Neighborhood Center, City of Maple Heights, City of Middleburg Heights, North Olmsted Commission on Paratransit, City of Richmond Heights, Senior Citizen Resources Inc., City of Solon, City of Strongsville, and TC3 Operations Inc.

The new vehicles will be used to provide low cost transportation to seniors and the disabled throughout Cuyahoga County.  Transportation services are provided to a variety of destinations, including but not limited to, medical, shopping, and social services.

Senior Transportation Connection brings area communities together to coordinate senior transportation providing enhanced services to senior adults including expanded travel areas and extended hours. With the new passenger vans, the municipal and social service providers can provide more service to area seniors throughout the county.

U.S. Senators Sherrod Brown, George Voinovich and Former Senator Mike DeWine supported the grant request.  As did U.S. Representatives Stephanie Tubbs Jones (11th District), Dennis Kucinich (10th District), and Steve LaTourette (14th District).   Senior Transportation Connection also greatly benefited from the support of Cuyahoga County Commissioners Jimmy Dimora, Timothy F. Hagan, and Peter Lawson Jones. Cuyahoga County was key in promoting Senior Transportation Connection in the county legislative agenda.

Senior Transportation Connection is generously supported by the Senior Success Vision Council, St. Luke’s Foundation, Sisters of Charity Foundation, Deaconess Community Foundation, Mt. Sinai Health Care Foundation, Ohio Department of Transportation and local communities.
